NCC-AWIS: Exceptional Service Awards

The Northern California Chapters of AWIS present annual awards to two worthy local women scientists based on their contributions to science as well as their commitment to mentoring other women in science.  However, we are aware that many women have also contributed immense time and effort to making the local AWIS chapters the well-respected, successful organizations they are today.  Creating and sustaining the activities that the AWIS chapters maintain takes enormous effort and energy from numerous women, all on a volunteer basis.These activities include monthly newsletters, programs and activities working with girls, mentoring programs, career conferences and workshops, scholarships and recognition awards, and these websites - all designed to encourage and support women and girls in pursuing interests and careers in science.

 To honor our most distinguished volunteers, NCC-AWIS has established an AWIS Exceptional Service Award to recognize and make tangible our thanks and appreciation of exceptional contribution to NCC-AWIS.  The initial awards were presented on January 23, 2000 to twelve women who made the difference in founding our chapters and major programs but are no longer serving as chapter officers.
