About NCC-AWIS

NCC-AWIS is the Northern California Chapters of the Association for Women in Science.   Currently there are four chapters in Northern California: East Bay, Monterey Bay, Palo Alto and Sacramento Valley.

The NCC-AWIS committee serves the members of AWIS in this region through representation on the regional issues in the community and through the organization of fund-raising, awards presentation, workshops and conferences of interest to all members.  Fundraising efforts help support local projects such as outreach, mentoring, and awarding local scholarships.

The NCC-AWIS Committee is the official fund-raising arm for the Northern California chapters of AWIS. All corporate donations should be sent directly to NCC-AWIS. Corporate funds raised are distributed by mutual consent among the chapters as requested for local projects such as outreach, mentoring, and for awarding local scholarships. Corporate funds are not used for operating expenses for the chapters. Sales representatives and other individuals are invited to provide refreshments at chapter meetings in exchange for presenting demonstrations of their products.

National AWIS conducts separate fund-raising at the national level. Interested sponsors should call (202) 326-8940.

In addition to supporting local chapter activities, NCC-AWIS raises funding to support regional AWIS events. Two awards are presented annually at the AWIS awards dinner to local women scientists, one at the senior level and one at the junior level, who have contributed to the success of women in the sciences. A third award was created in 2000 to honor women working away from the bench.  Other regional events include workshops and conferences which are open to chapter members throughout the Bay Area.

AWIS is a 501 (c) (3) organization and NCC-AWIS operates on a July 1-June 30 fiscal year.
